Malawi government says this year’s 10th national agriculture fair will highlight priority programmes under the Presidential Initiative on Poverty and Hunger Reduction.
The aim is to increase production of special crops such as rice, legumes and wheat and small stock production, according to Principal Secretary for Agriculture and Food Security, Jeffrey Luhanga.
The fair will be jointly held by the ministry and the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) at the Chichiri trade fair grounds from Thursday, August 29 to 31, 2013 and theme is “Agricultural Productivity: The Foundation of Industrialization”.
“The National Agriculture Fair is aimed at promoting commercialization and facilitating linkages among various players in agricultural value chains. This year the fair will also highlight priority programmes under the Presidential Initiative on Poverty Reduction and Hunger Reduction,” said Luhanga.
The fair is an annual public event that provides players with a forum to showcase equipment, crops, animals and recreation associated with agriculture.
“Furthermore, the fair provides a forum for agriculture stakeholders to share experiences and establish business relationships especially in marketing,” he added.
He therefore urged all stakeholders in the agriculture sector to attend and participate in this year’s National Agriculture Fair.
