Arsenal are continuing to watch Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, with the Brazilian goal machine carrying a £32million release clause.
Gunners scouts will travel to Atletico’s two games this week against Sant Andreu and Levante, but it is thought the North London club do not wish to stretch to the 25-year-old’s release clause.
Arsenal are looking to bolster their frontline in January, with a lot of responsibility on Olivier Giroud’s shoulders so far this season.
Costa has scored 22 goals in 21 games this season for the side from the capital, including 17 goals in 16 games in La Liga, level with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Costa signed a new deal with Madrid in August until 2018, but a release clause of £32million is understood to have been added to the contract.
Arsenal failed with their move for Luiz Suarez in the summer, with the Uruguayan instead firing Liverpool up the Premier League table.
Arsene Wenger also moved for Gonzalo Higuain who moved to Napoli, Wayne Rooney and Stevan Jovetic, who moved to Manchester City.
Suarez remains Wenger’s dream signing, but the chances of the Uruguayan leaving Liverpool in January – particularly to Arsenal – are remote.
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is viewed as an alternative to the Liverpool striker given their similarities in style.
