Chakwera’s supporters in road accident

About 29 people were on Sunday injured when the 10 tonner lorry registration number DC 5449 they were travelling in was involved in an accident near Bunda road block in Lilongwe.
Lilongwe Police confirmed that the 29, mostly women sustained injuries of varying degrees as the lorry that was ferrying people to Masintha Ground where Malawi Congress Party President Reverend Lazarus Chakwela was conducting party rally was involved in an accident.
A mammoth crowd turned out at the Masintha ground to attend the rally and in his speech Chakwela went on to call for the arrest of big fish in the government funds looting at Capital Hill saga.
Chakwela demanded the immediate return of the President from her foreign trip to tackle  the issue.
While applauding the arrest of the suspects in the government funds looting, Chawela also said he suspected that a bigger fish is involved in the scandal but is not being arrested.
Chakwela joins other political party leaders that have also asked President Banda to cut short her trip.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) President Peter Mutharika last week accused President Joyce Banda’s administration of blowing out proportion the wealth of former president Bingu wa Mutharika to cover “current looting” at Capitol Hill.
Mutharika spoke during the whistle-stop tour of Lilongwe where he also questioned the decision by the Malawi leader to extend her visit to the United States amid what he termed a serious crisis following the shooting of Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo.
He said it would be sensible for President Banda to return home and deal with pertinent domestic issues.
“I am appealing to the President that there is a corruption crisis in this country. She should come back home and provide leadership in dealing with the crisis.
“It is important for the president to return home to provide evidence on her claims that she knew Mphwiyo’s attackers to police,” said Mutharika.
