Dave Jones has been sacked as manager of Sheffield Wednesday following Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Blackpool.
Chairman Milan Mandaric made the call as defeat saw his side anchored to the bottom of the Championship table, equal with Barnsley on 11 points.
‘Dave Jones has been relieved of his duties as first team manager with immediate effect,’ a brief statement on the club’s website said.

‘The club would like to thank Dave for all of his hard work and wish him well for the future,’ it continued. ‘Sheffield Wednesday will be making no further comment at this time.’ After Saturday’s loss, Jones said his sacking wouldn’t be the solution to his side’s woes.

Pressure had been mounting on Jones for a number of weeks as his team had won just one of their 16 Championship games this season.
In fact, Wednesday’s poor run has been their worst start to a campaign for 122 years and fans have been left disgruntled by some of Jones’ decisions this term.
The 2-0 defeat at the hands of Blackpool was the Owls’ third defeat on the spin and leaves them joint bottom in the Championship.
