..as Moyale, Kamuzu Barracks , Epac and Mafco lead in votes
The draw for the 2013 Standard Bank Cup will take place at the Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre on Friday 11th October 2013.The draw will see four voted teams being drawn for the preliminary round where the two winners will join the six seeded teams in the quarterfinals.
The draw for the quarterfinals will also be done on the same day.
The seeded teams are the ones that finished in the top six in the 2012/2013 TNM Super League season namely Silver Strikers, Bullets FC Blantyre United, Mighty Wanderers, Civo and Red Lions.
Nine other teams will have to depend on the votes of their fans to be part of the four teams that will play in the preliminaries.
The Nine teams eligible to be voted are Blue Eagles, Moyale, Kamuzu Barracks, Azam Tigers, Epac, Evrom, Mzuzu United, Mponela Fc and Mafco.
Voting started last week and ends at 3pm today Thursday 9th October 2013.
As of Wednesday 8th October the four leading teams in the vote counts were Moyale (307 votes), Kamuzu Barracks (207 votes), Epac (123) and Mafco (59 votes)
The final results will be announced at the draw.
Malawi Football Legends Jack Chamangwana and Ernest Mtawali will lead the draw proceedings.
Standard Bank will give uniforms to the six seeded teams while the two other quarterfinalists to be determined next Wednesday will get their uniforms on Thursday next week.
The quarterfinals will be played on 19th and 20th 2013, semifinals on 26th and 27th October 2013 and final on 2nd November 2013.
Standard Bank has upped the sponsorship package for this year’s Standard Bank Knock Out Cup from K20 million to K25 million.
The bank made the announcement last Friday at Ryalls Hotel where they re-launched the cup.
Following the increment, this year’s champions will pocket K8 million, up from last year’s K7 million.
The runners up will cart home K4 million with the semi-finalists getting K500,000 each.
Losing quarter finalists will also get a consolation of K250,000.
