Flames coach Tom Saintfiet chalks first win

Newly appointed Malawi national team coach has chalked first win after beating Rwanda 1-0 in an international friendly in Kigali.
The Belgian had started his job with two losses at Cosafa and the win is a big boost as the team prepares for the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria next month.
Supersport United striker Atusaye Nyondo lone goal was enough to give Malawi victory after he converted 30th minute spot kick.
The penalty came after a Rwandan defender handled the ball in the box as he attempted to clear a Peter Wadabwa cross.
The win comes as a big boost to the Flames as they prepare for their crucial away 2014 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
Coach Tom Saintfiet had a depleted squad after six first choice foreign based players withdrew from the squad with reasons ranging from injuries to passport hitches.
He said in a brief interview from Kigali that the win is massive boost though he said the team still has room for improvement.
Fam general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda the win is a massive one considering that it was an away game.
“We are playing Nigeria away and that is why we felt it was proper to play this game away as well so that the players can feel the away atmosphere and their win is just fantastic.
‘The coach took a whole new bunch of players from the ones he saw at Cosafa and we believe he has seen what he has this disposal before making the final squad for Nigeria.
The team returns home on Thursday.
