…as they prepare to meet Moyale in Carlsberg final Saturday
If the TNM Super League would abruptly end today Kamuzu Barracks would be the winners after they finished top of the table at the end of the first round.
With two games to go, no team can overtake the soldiers at the summit of the table where they are comfortable with 29 points from 14 games.
The soldiers ascended to the top of the table after they beat Mafco 1-0 on Wednesday at Dwangwa’s Chitowe Stadium.
The result means they have overtaken Might Wanderers who now finish on second position with 27 points followed by Red Lions who have 25 points.
But Lions can be overtaken by Bullets FC and Blue Eagles who have one more game before the end of the first round on Sunday.
Kamuzu Barracks will receive K250,000 from TNM for finishing top of the table in first round.
Kamuzu Barracks coach Billy Phambala was over the moon that just in their second season they had pulled this feat.
“I am just happy that my boys played according to instructions. It was one of the easiest games for us. We played with so much confidence. In fact we could have scored even six goals if we had wanted but felt we should take it easy and not panic as we are also expected to play Moyale in Carlsberg Cup final.
“Otherwise, the game was a good preparation for the final. We also took the opportunity to look at what might have gone wrong in the match so that we can improve before playing Moyale. With such preparations I can assure all our fans that we are winning against Moyale.”
At stake is K7 million which the champions will receive, while the runners up get K3 million and losing semifinalists will get K1 million.
The top goal scorer who will get K100 000 while discovery of the tournament winner will also get K100 000.
