Emergency services rush to scene to free trapped commuters on the MTA train

At least two people are feared dead and many more people injured after a passenger train derailed in the Bronx area of New York City.

Multiple injuries have been reported after several carriages came off the track. Unconfirmed reports suggest that one carriage may have gone into the water.A woman who lives nearby told ABC 7 that she was woken by the crash.

She said: “I heard the crash. The emergency services were on the scene immediately.”It was a big boom. It woke me.”

One passenger, who managed to escape from the train, said: “I got out on my own. There are still people inside. Some were being carried out on stretchers.”I saw a number of people badly hurt with injuries to hands, heads and upper bodies.”

One resident claimed it was the SECOND derailment in the last four years. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority police said the train derailed near the Spuyten Duyvil station. The train was the 05:54 from Poughkeepsie, due to arrive at Grand Central Station at 07:43.
