The second phase of the voter registration for next year’s Tripartite Elections started today(Thursday) and will run for two weeks.
Malawi goes to polls on May 20 2014 and Malawi Electoral Commission has said a statement that t the second phase will cover three districts.
“The Malawi Electoral Commission is informing the general public that the second phase of voter registration for 2014 Tripartite Elections starts on Thursday, August 8, 2013 and ends on August 21, 2013.
“The second phase will cover all constituencies in Blantyre City which were not covered during the first phase, all constituencies in Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts and Thyolo North Constituency,” a statement from Chief Elections Officer Willie Kalonga states.
According to Kalonga all eligible registrants in the areas covered under phase two can register between 8am to 4pm including weekends and public holidays.
“The Commission is in a special way appealing to all persons who may not find time within weekdays to take advantage of the Eid al-fitr holiday which is likely to fall this week to go and register,” he said.
He also reminded parties that only one accredited monitor would be allowed.
“Political parties are reminded that only accredited monitors will be allowed on each registration team at the centre. Details of number of registration teams per centre can be obtained from the District Commissioner or Chief Executive Officer’s office in respective councils,” he said.
