European soccer champion Real Madrid signed forward James Rodriguez from Monaco on a six-year contract, the Spanish club said today.
Real Madrid, which won a record tenth Champions League title this year by beating cross-town rival Atletico Madrid 4-1, announced the signing today on its website.
The 23-year-old’s six goals in five matches made him the top scorer at this year’s World Cup in Brazil as Colombia made it to the last eight teams for the first time.
He played in the Colombian league as a 14-year-old and at 17, was the youngest foreigner to play in the Argentinian league. He moved to Europe, where he played for Porto in Portugal and Monaco of France’s Ligue 1.
