Saintfiet denies quitting-It’s up to Fam

Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet has rubbished reports that he is no longer interested in Flames coaching  job and said he has been misinterpreted by the media.
The Belgian, who until last Sunday was Malawi coach, has said what he meant was that he had no contract with the Malawi FA after the Nigeria game and it was up to them to decide whether to retain him or not.
The coach was quoted by Nigeria and South Africa media in post match press briefing that he was no longer Malawi coach.
“I never was here to win many games. I was here to win one game (on Saturday) against Nigeria and that was the only goal. Saintfiet said at the post-match press conference.
“I don’t feel any pressure because (the Football Association of Malawi) had an agreement till midnight on Saturday.
“From Sunday morning, I have no agreement with the federation and that was clear so I am a professional coach and my future? That we will see in the coming weeks but I am not worried about that.”
Saintfiet was engaged in July by Fam as a volunteer with the mission to beat Nigeria.
Following Malawi’s 2-0 loss and exit, his contract with Fam is over, but the association is yet to meet to decide the fate of the coach.
But Fam president Walter Nyamilandu, while confirming the end of the coach tenure thinks Saintfiet has transformed Malawi football in the three months he has been in charge.
“It is our expectation that Tom will report back after the match against Nigeria before returning to his home in Belgium as per contract agreement. This will mean that he will have fulfilled his assignment which was to lead Malawi in its last world cup qualifier match against Nigeria,” Nyamilandu said.
“We will, thereafter, enter into discussions with the Ministry of Sports and Malawi National Council of Sports on the permanent recruitment of a national coach of the Flames. This will obviously depend on availability of funds bearing in mind that funding for the Flames has been exhausted. Suffice to say that the position of the national coach and his assistants will be vacant.”
