Maxwell, who has been nominated for 12 Grammys and won twice, last released an album in 2009, after an eight year break.
He told Dubai newspaper Khaleej Times that it takes time to create quality music.
‘You can rush to fail, or you can take your time to succeed,’ he said earlier this month.
In the interview, Maxwell confirmed that he is almost done producing his new album.
‘It’s happening,’ he said about the upcoming record. ‘Am I trying to make people crazy? Yah.’
‘You just want to be able to feel like you’re progressing in your work, that you’re not just being formulaic and giving people what they expect. You want to give them something that’s going to surprise them, and keep them, hopefully, respecting you,’ he added.
