Some exciting fixtures are on the menu in this year’s Standard Bank Knockout Cup which kicks off this Wednesday.
Following voting that took place for close to two weeks, Mafco, Epac, Moyale and Kamuzu Barracks will take part in the preliminary stage.
Mafco faces Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe while Moyale will host Epac at Mzuzu Stadium on Wednesday.
The winner between Mafco and Kamuzu Barracks will face the winner between Moyale and Epac in the quarterfinals.
In other quarterfinals draw involving top six teams from last season TNM Super League log table Blantyre United were drawn against Silver Strikers.
The fixture is a repeat of TNM Super League encounter just a few weeks ago when United stunned the Super League defending champions 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium.
Red Lions were drawn against Mighty Wanderers in a repeat of Presidential Cup and Carlsberg Cup first round draw.
The Zomba based soldiers beat the Nomads in both fixtures.
Civo were paired against Bullets FC and the game is set for Lilongwe.
The two sides drew 0-0 in TNM Super League just a week ago at Kamuzu Stadium.
Wanderers are the defending champions of the competition which is sponsored at K25 million by Standard Bank.
The quarterfinals will be played on 19th and 20th 2013, semifinals on 26th and 27th October 2013 and final on 2nd November 2013.
Standard Bank has upped the sponsorship package for this year’s Standard Bank Knock Out Cup from K20 million to K25 million.
The bank made the announcement last Friday at Ryalls Hotel where they re-launched the cup.
Following the increment, this year’s champions will pocket K8 million, up from last year’s K7 million.
The runners up will cart home K4 million with the semi-finalists getting K500,000 each.
Losing quarter finalists will also get a consolation of K250,000.
