Doctors have long proclaimed the health benefits of a break abroad to overcome troubles of the heart.
And it seems Tyrese Gibson truly embraced his time in Dubai – and the Arab culture – as he returned almost unrecognisable, in traditional flowing dishdash robe and headgear.
The singer landed at LAX Airport today where he wafted through arrivals swathed in an ankle length tunic, also called a khandoura, and greeted photographers with a dubious three-fingered salute.
A source said: ‘He threw himself into the lifetsyle out there. It was a world away from LA- and exactly what he needed.’
Tyrese has had a tough time of late coming to terms with the death of his Fast and Furious co-star, Paul Walker.
But while on holiday in Dubai, he put his grief aside, momentarily, as he met Arab royalty and wore the respectful, traditional, clothing throughout.
He enjoyed his break so much that he filmed a special video of his time in the country and thanked the Arab people for ‘the love’
In the video he tells the people of Dubai: ‘Thank you for the love and the feeling of being home. I love you so much.’
He adds: ‘I just want to share my experience. I want to show you what better place to bring in the new year and my 35th birthday.’
Tyrese’s time in Dubai seems to have helped him turn the corner.
In November he burst into tears as he paid tribute to Paul Walker at the site of his horrific car crash in Santa Clarita, California.
And five weeks after the tragic accident, which claimed the life of the Fast & Furious favourite, Tyrese told how he struggled to suppress the enormity of the grief he felt after Paul’s death.
Tyrese almost broke down in Dubai on Wednesday when a fan surprised him by arriving to see him in a yellow sports car with ‘Dude I almost had you,’ a quote from Paul’s character Brian O’Connor written on it along with ‘R.I.P Paul Walker 1973 – 2013.’
In a video posted on his Facebook page, a visibly emotional Gibson said: ‘I believe my number one fan and number one supporter just showed up.
‘I’m happy to see him but this car makes me very emotional.’
Pointing to the car, Bumblebee from Tyrese’s Transformers franchise, he said: ‘I ran into him on the freeway in Dubal so here’s Bumblebee.’
The distraught actor ended the video by saying: ‘My, my, rest in peace.’
Tyrese captioned the clip: ‘Emotional when this happens.
‘My #1 fan in Dubai just showed up… Emotional day! (sic).’
Paul died after his friend Roger Rodas lost control of a Porsche GT they were travelling in and smashed into a pole and a tree.
The video came one day after Tyrese posted a tribute to his fallen colleague on his Facebook page where he said life is now ‘bittersweet’ without Paul.
Along with a picture of them both, he wrote: ‘Doesn’t matter how busy I get, how many more opportunities, how many more blessings…
‘You not being here makes life bitter sweet sometimes…You would be proud to know I found my smile again…. I’ve Prayed to God for your family and daughter and I am at peace with what happened….
‘And we are gonna make you PROUD bro… Proud…
‘#RIHAW ((..Rest In Heaven Angel Walker..)) (sic).’
